Hi, I'm Jennifer Mitchell!

Elementary school teacher, mom of two, and the voice behind Weight Loss Over 40 Tips.

If you’re a woman over 40 who’s frustrated with weight loss advice that just doesn’t seem to work anymore, I get it — because I’ve been exactly where you are.

My Story

For most of my 30s, staying in shape wasn’t that hard. After having my daughter Lily and my son Ethan, I bounced back relatively easily. I was busy, sure — teaching second graders all day, running the kids to soccer and dance class — but my body cooperated.

Then I hit 42, and everything changed.

The weight started creeping on — slowly at first, then faster. My metabolism felt like it had hit the brakes. I was stress-eating between lesson plans and bedtime routines. By the time I was 44, I weighed 159 lbs — the heaviest I’d ever been. I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror, and honestly? I was exhausted all the time.

The "I've Tried Everything" Phase

Sound familiar? I tried it all:

  • Calorie counting apps that made me obsess over every bite
  • Keto — lost 5 lbs, gained back 8
  • Skipping meals (hello, 3pm headaches)
  • Random “detox” teas from Instagram ads
  • Gym memberships I used for exactly 3 weeks

Nothing stuck. And every time something failed, I felt worse about myself. I started thinking maybe this was just what happens after 40 — maybe I was supposed to feel tired, heavy, and frustrated.

What Actually Worked

The turning point came when I stopped looking for quick fixes and started researching what actually works for women’s bodies after 40. I learned about hormonal changes, metabolic adaptation, and why the advice that works for 25-year-olds doesn’t work for us.

I discovered the Smoothie Diet almost by accident — a friend mentioned it, and I was skeptical (trust me, I’d been burned before). But something about the approach made sense: whole foods, proper nutrition, and a plan that didn’t require me to spend 2 hours at the gym.

I started slow. No dramatic overhaul — just small, sustainable changes. And for the first time in years, the scale started moving in the right direction.

Over the next 18 months, I lost 20 lbs — going from 159 lbs to 139 lbs. Not overnight, not dramatically, but steadily and sustainably. More importantly, I got my energy back. I could keep up with Ethan’s soccer games without feeling wiped out. I actually wanted to go for walks after dinner instead of collapsing on the couch.

Why I Started This Blog

Once I figured out what worked for me, I couldn’t keep it to myself. I started sharing tips with friends, then coworkers, then friends-of-friends who heard about my results.

In 2024, I launched Weight Loss Over 40 Tips to reach more women like us. This blog is everything I wish I’d had when I was at 159 lbs and feeling hopeless — honest information, real strategies, and zero judgment.
